The word rumbelow is a puzzle.
Rumbelow is defined in the O.E.D. as "[Arbitrary combination of syllables.] A refrain, orig. sung by sailors when rowing."
"Rumbelow" is a surprisingly common surname which includes:
- Donald Rumbelow: an authority on Jack the Ripper and author of several books on the case.
- Steven Rumbelow: theatrical and film director from Bristol, England now working in Toronto, Canada.
It does not seem, heretofore, to have referred to a melée, fracas, celebration, festivity or any sort of social or sporting activity. --Old Dickens 03:22, 26 September 2010 (CEST)
