Okay - going to channel a bit of Ponder Stibbons here.... Discworld is notorious for the mystical connotation behind the number eight. (Color of Magic, The Light Fantastic, Sorcery...) So a tesseractical floor, being a physical location within an eight sided cube inside an eight sided cube might be responsible for a 8 to the 8th power compression of the magical field which would result in a random magic field similar to the one Rincewind and Two-Flower passed through in The Color of Magic.
