So logically, Howondaland must therefore be a lot larger than it appears on the Discworld mapp, just as Africa is a lot larger than it appears to be on the world map because of perspective illusions caused by projection? --AgProv 02:07, 7 November 2011 (CET)
- No, there's no need for any projection on a Discworld mapp, it's flat. --Old Dickens 02:18, 7 November 2011 (CET)
I was thinking of the statement concerning Howondaland being the larger of the two proto-continents on the Disc, and mentally comparing that to the picture on the Mapp of the "modern" continent being only about a quarter of the size of the Central Continent, about the same size as Agatea alone. Something's out of proportion here, but then I've always suspected that... then again, mediaeval maps of Africa always show it a lot smaller than it actually is, even before bringing Mercator into play. Incidentally, what would the Discworld system of navigation be? Latitude and longitude might not work on a flat earth...--AgProv 02:29, 7 November 2011 (CET)
- But that was before it became the unnamed continent and Klatch. Of course latitude and longitude don't work: they have the quasi-Cartesian system of "in-out" and "around". --Old Dickens 03:13, 7 November 2011 (CET)
