Found this in the "New Pages Pending Approval" list. I'd love to approve it for the wiki, but while I remember Victor Tugelbend having an uncle, I don't recall the uncle being a wizard or even named? I'll go back myself and check The Light Fantastic and I'd be glad if others would - and if Hector's there, the article stands! AgProv 01:06, 27 May 2012 (CEST)
found something. Apparently - there's a forum talk thread about this on another site - a wizard called Hector Tugelbend exists in the TELEVISION ADAPTATION of The Light Fantastic. He is not named in the original book - no wonder I thought an error had been made.
It's important to say that apparently there is a scene in the TV version where the usurper Trymon is poring over a book, to a page open to the names of the heads of the Eight Orders. Freeze-frame here and read it at your leisure, and Hector Tugelbend now has a Discworld existance as a seventh or eighth level Mage in charge of this Order. But... the jury is still out as to whether he's Victor's uncle.
So, assuming that Terry must have implicitly okayed this, should we now treat this as Canon and allow this entry to stand, with modifications? Even though this is only in the TV adaptation? AgProv 01:26, 27 May 2012 (CEST)
- I hate it, but your reasoning suggests that it should (taking your facts as given and with the note in the article). Old Dickens 01:58, 27 May 2012 (CEST)
(Deep sigh). It's like The Lord of the Rings all over again... the People of the Book versus The People Of The Film in endless (ands mostly sterile) arguments as to which version should have primacy.... at least in this case, The Author was still alive at the time of the making of the moving picture version and there to consult and advise!
