In the events of Men at Arms, Lettice Knibbs was a lady's maid to Queen Molly of the Beggars' Guild. She was shot (by mistake) by the gonne when she modelled her employer's famous velvet gown. (It's in the charter: "Some in rags and some in tags and one in a velvet gown").
To add insult to injury, she is memorialised in The New Discworld Companion (2003) as Lettuce.
