Brevis or Beavis?
Is that the correct name? My copy says Gammer Brevis --Rene 09:10, 9 September 2009 (UTC)?!
- My copy says Brevis. --83.255.38.110 18:58, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
- Dat wus me (moronic computer) Iron Hippo 19:04, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
And my Harper Torch, but we changed it from Brevis nearly three years ago when nobody could support that! What editions are you referring to? It sounds like another optional spelling. --Old Dickens 22:18, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
-It's Beavis in theThe New Discworld Companion, but then he lists "Lettuce" Knibbs, too. --Old Dickens 00:06, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
-And Wikipedia lists Beavis. --Old Dickens 00:10, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
- Corgi paperback printed 1992 says Brevis Iron Hippo 04:51, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
Slightly old discussion, but my copy of Witches Abroad says "Brevis" as well. It's a HarperCollins paperback. (Well, it says "Harper, An Imprint of HarperCollins Publishers") TC01 03:46, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
So the canon seems to say "Brevis" and the Companion and WP say "Beavis". I don't suppose anyone has an original Gollancz? (I always suspected her first name was "Vita".) --Old Dickens 04:21, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
No support for "Beavis" and Wikipedia has corrected their entry. The Companion entry seems to be a brain-cramp. --Old Dickens 00:07, 18 April 2010 (UTC)
But...
The Sea and Little Fishes does say Beavis, which probably brought on the spelling in The New Discworld Companion and TSALF is also canonical, you'd think, so whaddyagonnado? I don't think it's reasonable to suppose they're different characters and there's already a redirect: I'd rather just mention the confusion in later works. TP has lost track of bits elsewhere, too, but this is a particularly twisty trail. --Old Dickens (talk) 20:07, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
