And not just before and after. Underused members of the pit orchestra like harpists and tuba players have been known to slip out for a quick one during the show, if they know it'll be 15 minutes before their next note. Solicitr 17:24, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

ah. I wondered about the triangle player in Sibelius Karelia Suite, whose sole function is to hit the triangle, I think, three times, in the final movement, some 42 minutes into the piece. I very nearly strove for a career in orchestral music after working this one out... profesional orchestral triangle player. Can be found in theatre bar for first firty-one minutes. Will then play that single glacial Finnish "tingggg!" that heralds all horns and brass piling in on top of the strings, as if it were a hunt in the deep nordic forest and the trianglist has jsut spotted the prey. Respect, musicianship and not very much to do in the way of setting up or putting away, nor indeed in maintainance of instrument...--AgProv 08:15, 6 April 2010 (UTC) ("suomophile")
- Would be a good plan, except there's no full-time "triangle player." It's one of many bang-on-em instruments played as needed by one to three 'percussionists' (as distinct from the tympanist, who's pretty much full-time) Solicitr 16:46, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
