The Royal Navy uses the word "reefer" for such a protective seacoat. This apparently predates the use of the word for a marijuana cigarette. --AgProv 22:15, 22 May 2011 (CEST)

Whereas I thought a reefer jacket was equivalent to a pea coat, for cold rather than rain. The jacket would have been used by those reefing the sails while a reefer is likewise rolled up. --Old Dickens 01:19, 23 May 2011 (CEST)

Is there a reference to Jolly Sailor as chewing tobacco? I suppose Jackrum's comparison might suggest a chewable product under the same brand name, but (s)he may mean (s)he prefers chewing to smoking. --Old Dickens 04:19, 30 July 2011 (CEST)
