Moist Von Lipvig tells Sacharisa (I believe) that he left Uberwald as the empire was crumbling. I believe it was in Making Money. This would put the date within two decades or so of that book. Unfortunately my copy is packed away right now.

Possible reference to the collapse of the eastern bloc and the number of East European immigrants moving to West Europe and upsetting Daily Mail readers and the like? (unsigned comment by Vetitice, 14:32, 24 December 2009 - please sign your comments)

I wouldn't have thought it was that recently, but if so it could fit in with that decade or more of confusion that includes the Lancre time-slip and the largely forgotten Snapcase tyranny. Did events on the far side of Überwald disturb the world turnwise, too? Still, I'd place it much earlier in Margolotta's long career, perhaps as the point when she decided the "old ways" weren't good for anybody and began her...well, crusade is obviously the wrong word...campaign for social reform and inter-species rapprochement. --Old Dickens 17:52, 24 December 2009 (UTC)

The end of The Truth refers obliquely to Mr Tulip's origins, hiding in a church: "...every ear straining to hear the soldiers. Ours or theirs didn't matter, when a war had gone on this long...". That sure sounds like the Dark War, right? Reasonable time frame, consistent with "no neutrals."
