Is there perhaps a Braseneck College in Pseudopolis AND a Brazeneck College in Ankh-Morpork (or the other way around)? Are they good enough to be in two places at once?
Actually I always thought it was in Pseudopolis and didn't see where ACCOoDD said otherwise. --Old Dickens 23:28, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
A Pun in there?
I know Braseneck/Brazeneck is mainly a reference to the Oxford thing with brass and so, but why the change of letters then? It's curious, as 'brazen' means 'impudent' 'bold' 'cheekily' etc. Maybe it is to be read brazen-eck (eck = german for corner). Just a thought there --LilMaibe 22:49, 5 June 2011 (CEST)
- "Brazen" = "made of brass, brassy". Brazing is a method of welding with brass. Having a brass neck is to have a lot of chutzpah or nerve. It's all brass. cf Brazenose College--Old Dickens 02:35, 6 June 2011 (CEST)
- I know :) But several dictionaries (online as well as printed) also give the above meaning for brazen. I just wondered if the change of spelling was on purpose to get this double meaning, as well, the blokes from there appear to be pretty cheekily...--LilMaibe 05:47, 6 June 2011 (CEST)
- Yes, and it comes from having a lot of brass, or nerve: as I said, it's all brass. --Old Dickens 00:04, 7 June 2011 (CEST)
