The description of the Axle most definitely reminded me of a similar plot device in Alastair Reynold's Pushing Ice, but since both were published in 2005 it may just be a coincidence. --Megahurts 09:01, 11 March 2010 (UTC)

The Axle appears to be an example of a Perpetual Motion Device. Since on Roundworld they are theoretically impossible due to the first and second laws of thermodynamics it is all the more likely that the would appear on the Discworld. --Zdm 06:53, 17 September 2011 (CEST)
