Most residents of Ankh-Morkpork speak Morporkian. However from time to time Quirmian is used by particular individuals to make excruciating puns.
- Au Revoir - lit. "to the seeing again"; a Quirmian parting phrase
- Amour Propre - "self esteem" - "…regained their amour propre in their proper armor…" (Thud!)
- Chemin-de-fer - "The Iron Road" - The Railway. (According to Effie King, it's also a card game.)
- Dans Une Certaine Condition - "In A Certain Condition" - in reference to lycanthropy (Men at Arms)
- Derriere Velocite - "Bum's Rush" - Forcible ejection from an establishment (Men at Arms)
- Droit De Seigneur - "the right of the lord"
- Fait Accompli - "An Accomplished Fact" (Raising Steam)
- Grand Prix des Idiots Blithering - the "Grand Prize of the Blithering Idiots," an award given to the most accomplished Fool at the Fools' Guild in Ankh-Morpork each year, represented by honorary cap and bells. (Wyrd Sisters)
- Guy de Norde - a celebrated architect who gave his name to the main railway station in Quirm city.
- Le Mot Juste - "The Right Word (In The Right Place" - de Worde family Motto
- Lèse Majesté - "offense to majesty"
- Lingua Quirma - A nod to the roundworld phrase, "Lingua franca" (Jingo and Raising Steam)
- Mon Repos - "my place of rest" - (Thud!) - (see also Death's Domain).
- Noblesse Oblige - "Nobility Obliges".
- Nom d'une bouilloire! Pourquoi est-ce que je suis hardiment ri sous cape à par les dieux? - "Holy crap! Why am I laughed at by the gods?" (roughly translated) -- less a phrase and more a lamentation by the chef Aimsbury about his allergy to the word "garlic" (Making Money)
- Pas Devant Les Soldat Jeune - lit. "Not in front of the young soldiers"; recalls a common adult admonition, "Not in front of the children." (Monstrous Regiment)
- Pas Devant Le Gendarme - lit. "Not in front of the police"; "You have the right to remain silent…" (Making Money)
- Touché - "touched" (fencing)
