Burley Bolter

The Burley Bolter is a form of cabbage grown principally around the town of Hapley, and visitors are warned to avoid the fields near harvest-time, when it is at its most active. it is described as a truculent and aggressive vegetable that will pursue moving objects and is a hazard to trains on the rail lines. A frequent cause of delay is apparently "cabbages on the line", as Bolters mulch into a smelly pate that causes engine and carriage wheels to lose their traction on the rails. Farmers whose land adjoins the track have been requested to grow more passive and sedentary vegetables for at least a hundred yards on either side.
