Treacle

A popular form of sweetener in the diet of much of Discworld, this sugar syrup is not usually produced by agriculture, but mined from the deposits of ancient sugarcane flattened and buried by the catastrophic fall of the Fifth Elephant. or so the story goes.

Whatever the source, treacle is mined from various locations around the Sto Plains and Uberwald, and in some cases, even flows from wells. Treacle Mine Road in Morpork recalls the days when it led to a treacle mine which was an important resource of the city. The mine has long since been abandoned due to pressures of real estate value and cheaper sources in Quirm and elsewhere.
