Early books in the Discworld cycle talk about "thaumaturgists" and lowly "conjurors", whose ranks are filled with people who either fail to make the entrance requirements for Unseen University or who fail thair wizardry exams.

As these would appear to be "lesser" qualifications than a degree, if British practice is followed, thse weould neither be taught at nor conferred by a university. In Britain, there are lowlier establishments called F.E. Colleges or Tech Colleges which would handle intermediate qualifications standing between those gained on school-leaving and university level. (ie, the NVQ, which despite legend does not stand for Not Very Qualifed.)
