"Sto lat" in Polish means "a hundred years" and is what commonly is wished (and sung in a common folk song) for birthsday and a humorous reply to a sneeze. An accident? --217.144.210.20 02:19, 29 October 2006 (CET)
Nothing in the Discworld happens by accident - its Creator is too devious for that... I recall reading in the companion that Terry Pratchett has a congenial working relationship with the Polish translator of the series and is delighted that this is a person whose mind is almost as skewed as his. (Even though the Pole in question is said to have exclaimed "I do not believe it is POSSIBLE to think this way in Polish!") I don't think Sto Lat appears in the series much earlier than about the fifth or sixth book, enough time for the first in the series to be confronted with translation into Polish. Perhaps this is Pterrovicz's attempt to create a corner of the Disc with a uniquely Polish vibe? For some reason, "cabbage" and "Polish cuisine" seem to go together...--AgProv 14:12, 30 July 2007 (CEST)
