There are rocks that make a musical tone when struck. Stone "bells" have been used in China and Japan.
There is another kind of musical stone. At a small park in eastern Pennsylvania, USA called "Ringing Rocks" there is a pit of rough boulders, many but not all of which ring when struck with a hammer. This kind of boulder also occurs elsewhere. Cutting them into smaller pieces destroys the ringing quality.
