Reporting on Britain's coldest winter for a quarter of a century, the Guardian front page of Weds 6th January led on an appealing picture of a resident phalange of African baboons sitting in the snow in a British safari park, eating hot baked pototoes the zoo staff had prepared for them.
However, the baboon is a monkey. The Guardian clearly and blatantly misidentified the creature as an ape and gave it aspirations above its station.
The weight of corrections delivered - including from Pratchett readers who threatened to sent the Librarian round via L-space to correct the nespaper's zoology - was so heavy that the paper had to issue a correction and an apology today for not using the m-word where the m-word clearly applied...--194.70.181.1 09:16, 7 January 2010 (UTC)
