A Curious squid fisherman who fishes the Circle Sea about half way between Ankh-Morpork and Al Khali. Together with his son, he is the first person from Klatch to set foot upon the fabled island of Leshp when it rises again. His weapon is a curved sword.
Arif has a preteen son, whom he is teaching the tricks of the squid fishing trade - including important points about how all Ankh-Morporkian rivals are not-to-be-trusted squid thieves fishing in what are legally and rightfully Klatchian waters.
His principal rival is Solid Jackson, another curious squid fisherman who fishes in the same waters but comes from the other great city on the Circle Sea, Ankh-Morpork. Jackson is teaching his own preteen son the same lessons, but in reverse.
