			The mention of the word Pasha in the annotations got me thinking and researching.

			A wider comparison to the Ottoman empire seems quite possible in my mind. For one thing, it was once quite large, covering parts of Eastern Europe, Northern Africa, Egypt, Arabia, Israel... the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_Ottoman_Empire list] goes on and on. This presents the possibility it stretched all the way up to Überwald and Borogravia. Given how Vlad the Impaler fought against the Ottoman Empire on Roundworld it makes one wonder if the same happened on the Disc - which would certainly help explain the foot hold of the Vampires in Uberwald. The uniform of the military in Borogravia is also similar to that used by the British forces during the Crimean War - which in part was due to the decline of the Ottoman Empire and conflict over the lands it once occupied.

			In fact, might "the Muntab Question" actually refer to the "[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_Question Eastern Question]" - which was ultimately to do with the power struggle between European powers who had interests in the crumbling Ottoman Empire? It would explain their continued significance and why the Muntab Question continues to bother the politicians of the Disc.

			This might also fit in with the joke over "Where is Muntab" - "Exactly" - as the Empire dwindles.

			Geographically, Muntab - if it stretched up to Borogravia - might have also included the large body of water on the {{DM}} rimwards of Borogravia - much like how the Ottoman Empire at one point surrounded the Black Sea, while the mountains of Klatchistan going hubwards might be akin to the Balkans and Carpathians.

			I'm now finding a map forming in my head of the Disc of Old, in an age when they were yet to grow out of the idea of Empires and so the Disc was divided up between a few big powers... Ankh-Morpork, Muntab, Uberwald, The "Evil Empire", Klatch...
