The cynical and the ailurophobic, however, might be inclined to suggest that out of his two books, writing the Necrotelicomnicon actually came as a blessed relief after dealing with [[Cats|cats]] for his first book.

Achmed the Mad is, of course, a parody of the Mad Arab, [[wikipedia:Abdul Alhazred|Abdul Alhazred]], who wrote the [[wikipedia:Necronomicon|Necronomicon]] in the works of [[wikipedia:H. P. Lovecraft|H. P. Lovecraft]].

Perhaps Achmed's ''Book of Humourous Cat Stories'' is Pratchett's self-deprecating reference to his own work {{TUC}}. It is also a possible reference to [[wikipedia:Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats|''Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats'']] by [[wikipedia:T.s. Eliot|T.S. Eliot]] - a poet particularly disliked by Lovecraft (to the point where Lovecraft wrote a scathing parody of Eliot's work [[wikipedia:The Waste Land|The Waste Land]]).
